Scottish colourists influence - Michael Heseltine

Cadell, Fergusson, Hunter, Peploe, have all influenced me since coming to Scotland. They capture the vibrance and intensity of the Scottish landscape. By using the same strength of colour, I hope to transform the painting away from a representation of a scene to having a mood and impact of its own. The painting called 'Tulips and Cup' c.1912 by S.J.Peploe partly inspied this painting by its use of contrasting colour in well defined patterns. The pattern making properties of his work at this time create a feeling of confidence about his work which is infectious. Cadell took this style further in the late 20's with work such as 'The blue Fan'.
